Tongue and groove is a type of woodworking joint. The tongue joint is a flat piece of extended wood that's slotted into a slot (the groove) that runs down the entire length of a wood plank.
The tongue and groove joint ensures two pieces of flat wood are joined tightly together to create a single flat surface without nailing or gluing.
